The Recruiters Guide to Finding Top Talent We speak to Charlotte Clark and the Head of Talent Development at The Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo). She is responsible for positioning APSCo’s UK International Talent Development division as the recruitment profession’s ‘go to’ source of high quality, credible training and talent development courses.  All of which are developed and delivered by recruitment and training experts and lead to recognized qualifications which help individuals achieve their full potential throughout their recruitment careers.   So we wanted to use her nouse and expertise to truly understand how to help you find top talent, what challenges and mistakes to look out for and maybe pick up something useful that will better your recruitment routine. How do you begin the journey to finding top talent? Have a meaningful company mission and vision and be a great place to work. Build a talent pipeline to include passive and active candidates and teach your teams to spot talent. Assess prospective hires on a blend of their soft and hard skills â€" hire for fit and train for skills. Give candidates reasons to choose your company, there is a lot of competition out there!  Review candidates quickly and don’t hang about with the interviews. What talent challenges is the industry faced with? Competition for talent is fierce and staff retention can be an issue. In fact, according to the latest APSCo Deloitte Recruitment Index, recruiter churn has increased consistently over the past three years: in 2017 26% of new starters left within 12 months. At the other end of the spectrum, recruitment is seldom positioned as a ‘career of choice’ for entry-level talent, despite the opportunities it offers. This is something that APSCo is working hard address to secure the future of our profession. What mistakes should we avoid? In my experience, recruiters often fall down due to a lack of business planning and strategy, not picking up the phone to build relationships with clients and candidates and a lack of understanding around a candidate’s priorities and interests. Not addressing counter-offer possibilities right from the start and failing to follow up with interviewed candidates are also common downfalls. Whats the one piece of advice you give to HR departments? Find a recruitment partner who will create a recruitment strategy with you. Be clear on who does what, for example, whose responsibility it is to manage salary negotiations. Your chosen partner should have in-depth knowledge of the market you operate in and should know where to source candidates and how to engage them. They should also have the knowledge to be able to promote your EVP and give potential candidates an authentic insight into your business. What hard lessons can you share with us? Being a working parent with three children has been a real challenge for me.  Whether it be arranging child care, dealing with mum-guilt when a child is sick or missing a sports day, the list is endless. However, working for a great employer which offers flexibility means I can spend time with my family when I need to. What are your top 3 tips to recruiters? Believe in what you are talking about: the market you work in, the candidate you are representing and the client you are supporting. Ask tough questions. Dig deep and make sure you have defined the candidate and clients’ needs and wants. Listen really listen to every candidate and client you are helping. What’s up next for recruiting? Recruitment is changing at lightning speed, and while no one is sure what the future holds, there are certain areas which are particularly hot. In terms of technology, video interviewing, chatbots, and the automation of tasks (not jobs) are on the rise. Elsewhere, an increased focus on diversity in the workplace will continue to accelerate. 10 Foods to Avoid to Prevent Stains on Teeth A pearly white smile goes a long way â€" it boosts confidence, makes us feel good about ourselves, and clean teeth are good for your overall oral health. Unfortunately, maintaining sparkling white teeth can be difficult. The best way to prevent stains on teeth is to eat and drink the right foods. Visiting a reputable dentist, like Dentrix, is pivotal if you’re interested in quick results. But generally speaking, taking care of your teeth is all about adopting preventative measures into your daily routine. With that in mind, check out the following ten foods you can consume less to prevent chronic staining on your teeth. Black Coffee  If you’re a coffee drinker, this will be a tough one to give up on. However, it’s also a leading cause of teeth yellowing. This beverage is one of the worst when it comes down to keeping your teeth white. Some great alternatives that don’t require giving it up completely are drinking it less often throughout the week and adding some milk to lighten it up. Tea  You may be thinking if you make the switch from coffee to tea, this will fix the problem. Not exactly. Tea is also a teeth stainer because of its tannins. On the bright side, there are tea options such as green, herbal, or white tea that are lighter in color. Avoid darker teas like Earl Grey or English Breakfast.  Red Wine  Yes, a glass of red wine may be good for your heart. However, it’s not too great for your smile! This is no surprise since wine is so difficult to get out of clothes. Also, right after drinking it, your teeth reflect that cherry color. The simple solution to this is switching to white wine or, if you absolutely love red wine, brushing your teeth after drinking.  Sodas Juices  Coca-Cola is another beverage you want to look out for (along with other dark sodas) as it has teeth staining properties. Along with the color of the drink, the temperature is equally important. When your soda is too cold, your teeth contract, making them more vulnerable to stains. Cranberry juice is another drink that will stain your pearly whites. Any juices with acids and concentrated, dark colors are going to lead to yellowing. Quick solutions are drinking other beverages like water or sipping these drinks with a straw to avoid contact with teeth as much as possible.    Blueberries  So, we’ve covered beverages, now what are some foods that you should avoid? We are going to start with blueberries. While this fruit is a superfood full of antioxidants, the dark blue color stains teeth. Because you don’t want to get rid of this healthy option, consider rinsing your mouth after eating blueberries. This will do the trick.  Tomato Sauce  Yes, we are talking about all those delicious pasta dishes like spaghetti! Anything tomato based is prone to stain your smile. This one is very sad news for pizza, lasagne, or pasta lovers. A nice alternative is trying white wine sauce instead of tomato sauce. Fun fact: if you eat some broccoli or spinach beforehand, you’ll form a protective barrier over your pearly whites. This film will protect your smile, so the sauce doesn’t seep into your teeth pores.  Beets  Eating beets or drinking them in juice form leads to yellowing. Anyone who’s ever tried beets understands how concentrated this vegetable is. Immediately after eating them, brush your teeth to avoid stains and yellowing. Follow this simple practice with the above as well. Popsicles  Yes, you heard right! We are talking about those refreshing treats we all eat on a hot summer day. Popsicles stain your tongue and lips â€" you can expect this treat to stain your teeth as well. If you must have one, we encourage you to go for a light flavour like lemon or orange as opposed to a dark, grape Popsicle. Soy Sauce If you’re a fan of Chinese and Japanese foods you may not be too thrilled about this teeth staining food. Soy sauce is a huge contributor to teeth stains because of its dark appearance. It is also very concentrated, which increases the chance of a stain being left behind. Not only is this a teeth staining food but it is also very high in sodium. We encourage you to use soy sauce sparingly. Balsamic Vinegar  Last but not least is an ingredient that we add to our salads: balsamic vinegar. While this is a healthy alternative to Caesar or ranch dressings, the dark color has the potential to stain your pearly whites. Balsamic vinegar is naturally acidic, which means it will stick to your teeth. A good alternative is light vinegar instead. Additional Ways to Keep Your Smile Bright And Avoid Stains on Teeth  Along with eating the right foods, you want to practice healthy dental habits. Of course, the most important one is brushing your teeth daily. You want to brush, floss, and rinse your mouth at least twice every day. This will help fight plaque, a large contributor to stains. Additionally, whenever you are drinking a beverage that isn’t water we suggest you use a straw. You’ll avoid the drink surfacing on your teeth (at least the front areas that are visible). You’ll want to visit your dental provider at least two times a year. They will give you a professional cleaning and let you know of any problems if necessary.  While you’re there, you can ask your dentist which options are available for getting rid of already existing stains. They may recommend teeth whitening or bleaching. This brings us to the end of our guide. How introverts can gain the confidence they need to lead their teams effectively and benefit any organization. Techies are often used to laboring alone, and that suits them just fine. Their introverted personalities are geared toward communicating via email or texts and they dont stress about presentations in front of big groups because they simply think they will never be in that position. Until, of course, theyre tapped to fill a leadership role. More engineering, science and technology employees are finding that their growing experience and skills have brought them to the notice of high-ups. With the increasing focus on using technology and data to meet strategic goals, its clear more of these introverts are going to find themselves thrust into the leadership arena. Thats why its time to gain some confidence in what you bring to the table, and help you see that while you may do things differently as an introvert, your leadership can be valuable. Exercise Journal of good things - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog I have a confession: A friend told me about this exercise, and Im afraid that she heard about it on Oprah But hey, Its still good. Anyway, its about creating a daily positive space for reflection. Try it! Its terribly simple. Get yourself a journal, or open a new file on your computer. Then everyday, write down 5 things youre grateful for that day. And it can be just about anything, big or small. As an example, today Im grateful for: The beatiful autumn colours of the trees outside my window My girlfriend People brave and stupid enough to try and publish a new newspaper The music of Tom Waits The books of Harrison Owen Its difficult at first, but it will probably become easier after a while. Why is this a good exercise? Well, it will give you a pause every day, a chance to reflect on the positive qualities of your day. I find that all to often, I can move through entire days without giving myself time to reflect on what is happening. Also it focuses on the positive. Im pretty sure that for many people from a western culture, it would be a lot easier to think of 5 annoying things. We seem drawn to the negative, to what doesnt work. This exercise will accentuate the positive. As an alternative try writing down: 5 things you have learned today 5 nice people youve interacted with 5 beautiful things youve experienced Or make up your own category. Thanks for visiting my blog.
